SR Utility Cargo shorts not the same as SR Cargo s

I bought a pair of Silver Ridge shorts in a store and loved them. Awesome shorts, 5 stars. But the store only had one color, so I came online and bought 2 more pairs of Silver Ridge shorts in additional colors. Guess what? They were not the same shorts. I accidentally bought the Silver Ridge Utility Cargo Shorts instead of the Silver Ridge Cargo Shorts. Yes they are different. These utility cargo shorts superficially look the same and fit the same. But the fabric feels different, rougher in the utility cargo shorts, with cheaper made belt loops. But the feature that bugs me the most was the best feature on the cargo shorts, the zippered pocket. The zippered pocket on the side of the cargo shorts has a horizontal zipper. I can unzip it without looking and take out or put something in, like my wallet that I want to keep secure. The opening to that pocket is at the top, so nothing falls out accidentally if the zipper is open or when I put something in or take out. But the zipper on the side pocket of these utility cargo shorts is vertical and on the side of the pocket. I have to bend over slightly to put anything in or take out because of the direction you have to approach that pocket. And I have to look at it as I do it to make sure nothing falls out as I open the zipper. Absolutely dumb zipper position on these shorts. A vertical zipper can make sense on a shirt chest pocket because you can come into it horizontally easily on the chest (although I still prefer a horizontal zipper on a chest pocket also). Anyway, I will be giving these Silver Ridge Utility Cargo Shorts to Goodwill because they bug me so much, and I've already wore and washed them several times. The real question is if I will purchase a couple of the original Silver Ridge Cargo shorts, or look for shorts in another brand. The color selection of the Silver Ridge Cargo Shorts is poor. I assume that one is an updated version of another. Not sure which is which, but the horizontal zipper on the side pocket is far superior.

Love the shorts - But

I have been wearing the Silver Ridge short for over 20 years and I love them. However, I am now having a hard time finding the 12" length. That is what I want.

I bought these for my husband to try, a different fabric than he is used to having ... and he loved them. Big win for someone who doesn't stray from what he's been wearing for years (another version from Columbia). The included belt is also a win. Thank you, Columbia!

Durability isnt there.

LIke others the rear pockets of 3 shorts I purchased, 2 at one time. One on another time. The stiching has frayed and come apart. I realized one when my wallet fell out. I thought I missed the pocket. Then I realized it went through. I am putting in for warranty claim. But it appears this is the norm than the exception, from other reviews. I have similar shorts from major box stores that have lasted years and haven't had issues. Very disapointed.
