Was a great shirt for a safari. It's washed separately from other garments because of the bug retardant (worked) which wasn't a problem. Hang dry and it's not wrinkled. Very comfortable, breathable, basically the only shirts I wore for 2 weeks while in the Indian jungle. Fit just right.

First time using UPF clothing. These long sleeve shirts kept my core temperature cool, without overheating in very high humidity conditions. They are thin. I would normally need to take a break to avoid seeing black dots. Though I was perspiring a lot, I did not overheat!! Also, they protected me from the sun. When I got home after a few weeks of sun, my hands had a darker tint, because my arms were very well protected from the sun. Great! The size was a little big for me, but I didn't mind it. The added bonus of having insect repellent gave me peace of mind. I wish they continued making these shirts. I will look for other styles with UPF and think materials from Columbia. Thank you!!

A: Thank you for your question! The Insect Shield FAQ page (https://www.insectshield.com/pages/faqs) has an insight around the use of Permethrin in the technology. Please see below: "Insect Shield technology is used in a wide assortment of pet products including beds, blankets, cots, gaiters, bandanas and apparel items. While permethrin has been known to be harmful to cats in liquid form, Insect Shield repellency is so tightly bound to the fabric fibers in such minimal amounts that it does not pose a risk to cats, or when used in multi-pet households."

A: Great question! The Insect Shield technology is designed to last the practical life of the garment, estimated to be 70 washes. Reapplication may not replace the strong technology, due to its woven design. Hope this helps!
