Plus size and short length unicorn potential.
So it’s *really* hard to find a pair of rain pants in plus sizes with shorter inseam lengths. *really really* hard. I need something to repel rain and snow when I’m biking, shoveling the sidewalk, hiking, etc. I’m not super-concerned about warmth because I’m big into layering. So I need pants that are easy to pack, and easy to throw on when the weather turns. I’ve tried a bunch of different pairs, from REI stuff to generic Amazon stuff. All of the pants are way too long. Like 6”+ too long, even with boots on. So yay Columbia for shorter length rain pants! One star for plus sizes, and one star for multiple lengths. These pants have super-wide legs and cuffs, much more than necessary to pull them on without taking my boots off. I felt like I was wearing trash bags for pants. The waist wasn’t as “generous” as the legs by a long shot. Not tight, but not as stretchy as I expected. There is a drawstring, but it doesn’t stretch, either. These two minor flaws coupled together into one major flaw - I could barely keep the pants on my butt. I had to stop several times on my hike to readjust the waist and retie the drawstring. Not awesome at all. I’m going to keep the pants, though, and do some of my own modifications. That’s how desperate the plus size short length rain pants situation is. 1. Replace the non-stretch drawstring with a stretch one. Activate max cinch. 2. Add a strip of silicone grip glue to the waist band. Activate max grip. 3. Extend the Velcro on the leg to contain the huge cuff. Activate max aero.
