The Whistler Peak™ Pants proved to be an outstanding outer shell during Iditarod coverage in sustained single-digit temperatures and heavy snowfall. In deep winter environments where exposure to wind and wet snow is constant, these pants provided reliable protection and consistent performance. Their waterproofing is exceptional. Even after repeated kneeling in snow crust and extended periods of working in heavy snowfall, my internal layers remained completely dry. This level of protection is critical when operating in remote cold environments where maintaining warmth depends on staying dry. The fit is intentionally roomy, allowing them to layer comfortably over insulated winter pants. This makes them highly adaptable for fluctuating activity levels and changing weather conditions throughout long days in the field. A standout feature is the full-length leg zippers. These allow the pants to be put on or removed easily without the struggle often associated with winter footwear. Even with larger insulated boots, I was able to manage layering adjustments quickly and efficiently in harsh conditions. Despite their protective build, they remain quiet while moving, which is important when photographing wildlife or fast-moving race teams. There was no noticeable condensation buildup during extended exertion, and they maintained comfort throughout long shooting days.
