Quality is going down

I used a previous Columbia backpack for 15 years. It was finally was breaking down. I found the closest equivalent, which is the Manresa. Man, this is MUCH LOWER QUALITY than the old one. This new one does NOT have a strong padded bottom so glass things in your bag clang if you put your bag on hard floors. They may break. It does NOT have a zipper inner pocket for keys like the old one. It has weaker material on the inside and outside. (The old one had ripstop all on the outside. The old one survived 15 years of continuous use (grad school, biking and 2 jobs) without ripping. The handle on the new one top is much less durably stitched. I would return it but there's a charge for that... What happened, Columbia?
